Frequently asked questions (and answers)

These are some of the most commonly asked questions about our events. Remember, the only silly question is the one you didn't ask!

Q How do I know if I am in the race?

A Firstly, look at your bank statements to see if your cheque has been cashed. This will be your first clue. If it has, you are in. You may also receive an acknowledgement email or letter if you have entered early enough. It will contain an outline of the race information and nearer to race day, you will receive a detailed printed race information document. We usually put an entry list up on this website too, so you can keep checking here from time to time. Please make sure the details we have for you are correct.

Q Can someone else register for me?

A Yes, but they must bring a signed letter of authority from you and they must show your race licence and ID. Your friend must also bring your cycle helmet for checking and your bike for racking.

Q Can I wear a number belt?

AYes, but your number must be clearly visible at all times otherwise you may be subjected to a 2 minute penalty as per the BTA rules. You mustn't fold or cut down your race number in any way. Write any medical information on the back of your number.

Q Do I have to wear a wetsuit?

A YES. We strongly recommend the use of a wetsuit. Not only will a wetsuit keep you warmer in the water, but it will also assist with buoyancy. You are advised to try swimming in your wetsuit before race day, and it's also a good idea to practice taking it off when wet!

Q Can I wear my race numbers underneath my wetsuit?

A Yes. The race numbers we supply really are waterproof and tearproof. Take care when you put your wetsuit on over the numbers ~ ask a friend to help you. When you take your wetsuit off, your numbers should remain intact, provided you have pinned them securely in all four corners.

Q Do I have to be a member of the BTA?

A No. If you are not a member of the BTA, you must bring some form of ID with you and you will be required to pay the BTA day license at registration. You are recommended to familiarise yourself with the BTA rules and regulations that will be applied to this race, otherwise you may be penalised for breaking any rule. Ignorance is no defence! See the BTA website for more information on rules, membership and much, much more. For further information phone BTA on 01509 226161.

Q You've got my age group wrong.

A Your age group is determined by your age at December 31, and not your age on race day (in accordance with BTA rules).

Q When will I receive my race numbers?

A When you come to registration. We will NOT be posting out race numbers.

Q I have entered the race, but now I can't do it. I have injured myself; become pregnant; got to go away on business; etc etc etc. Can I have a refund?

A Possibly. But please refer to our Withdrawals Policy for clarification.

Q If I can't have a refund, can I give my entry to someone else?

A DEFINITELY NOT!! This causes huge problems to us if entries are swapped around. We must have accurate information on everyone who is competing in the race, otherwise there will be a knock-on effect in the race, insurance, prize giving, the results will be wrong etc, etc.

Q Can my friend/husband/wife/coach/mum/dad/children/pets etc come into the transition area with me?

A NO, DEFINITELY NOT! Only competitors wearing the security wristband will be allowed into transition. Neither press nor spectators will be allowed in.
